The National Green Tribunal's southern bench has ordered government agencies involved in constructing the Chennai Peripheral Ring Road (CPRR) in Tiruvallur to ensure the project does not impede the natural flow of water into Kannigaiper Lake. This directive follows a suo motu case initiated in 2025 after a letter petition raised concerns that a 280-meter stretch of the road would obstruct water flow, potentially causing flooding for nearly 50 villages.

नेशनल ग्रीन ट्रिब्यूनल (NGT) की दक्षिणी पीठ ने तिरुवल्लूर में चेन्नई पेरिफेरल रिंग रोड (CPRR) के निर्माण में शामिल सरकारी एजेंसियों को आदेश दिया है कि यह प्रोजेक्ट कनिगईपेर झील में पानी के प्राकृतिक बहाव को रोकेगा नहीं। यह निर्देश 2025 में एक पत्र याचिका के बाद शुरू किए गए स्वतः संज्ञान मामले में आया है, जिसमें चिंता जताई गई थी कि सड़क का 280 मीटर लंबा हिस्सा पानी के बहाव को रोकेगा, जिससे लगभग 50 गांवों में बाढ़ आ सकती है।
