India-UK FTA Needs More Than Tariff Cuts

India's new Free Trade Agreement with the UK offers improved market access for exporters. However, the Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) highlights that tariff reductions alone are insufficient. Strengthening quality standards and logistics is vital, especially for food and engineering sectors facing specific regulations. Labour-intensive industries like garments and textiles, along with processed foods and automotive components, hold significant untapped export potential for India.

भारत और यूके के बीच नया फ्री ट्रेड एग्रीमेंट निर्यातकों के लिए बाज़ार तक पहुँच को बेहतर बनाता है। लेकिन, GTRI का कहना है कि सिर्फ टैरिफ कम करना काफी नहीं है। गुणवत्ता मानकों और लॉजिस्टिक्स को मजबूत करना ज़रूरी है, खासकर खाद्य और इंजीनियरिंग जैसे क्षेत्रों के लिए जहाँ खास नियम हैं। गारमेंट्स, टेक्सटाइल, प्रोसेस्ड फूड और ऑटोमोटिव पार्ट्स जैसे उद्योगों में भारत के लिए निर्यात की बड़ी संभावनाएँ हैं।
