The Supreme Court has clarified that the deletion of a name from the electoral roll under Section 17 of the Registration of Electors Rules, 1960 (SIR) does not automatically lead to the loss of citizenship. This ruling addresses concerns that such deletions could be misinterpreted as stripping individuals of their nationality.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने साफ कर दिया है कि इलेक्टोरल रोल से नाम हटाना, यानी रजिस्ट्रेशन ऑफ इलेक्टर्स रूल्स, 1960 के सेक्शन 17 के तहत, अपने आप नागरिकता खत्म नहीं करता। यह फैसला उन चिंताओं को दूर करता है कि कहीं लोग इसे नागरिकता छीनने जैसा न समझ लें। अब यह स्पष्ट है कि वोटिंग लिस्ट से नाम हटने का मतलब नागरिकता का खत्म होना नहीं है।
