SC Seeks Karnataka Response on Premium FAR Scheme

The Supreme Court has issued a notice to the Karnataka government concerning a petition challenging the Premium Floor Area Ratio (FAR) scheme. The court explicitly stated that the scheme should not be used to regularise unauthorised constructions temporarily. The petition argues that the scheme, which allows purchasing additional construction rights, inadequately addresses Bengaluru's infrastructure strain. The Karnataka High Court had previously upheld the scheme's validity.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने कर्नाटक सरकार को प्रीमियम फ्लोर एरिया रेशियो (FAR) योजना को चुनौती देने वाली याचिका पर नोटिस जारी किया है। कोर्ट ने साफ कहा कि अनधिकृत निर्माणों को अस्थायी रूप से नियमित करने के लिए इस योजना का इस्तेमाल न हो। याचिका में कहा गया है कि यह योजना, जो अतिरिक्त निर्माण अधिकार खरीदने की अनुमति देती है, बेंगलुरु के बुनियादी ढांचे पर बढ़ते दबाव को ठीक से संबोधित नहीं करती। इससे पहले कर्नाटक हाई कोर्ट ने योजना को वैध ठहराया था।
