Keralam's electricity consumers will see significant changes in their bills starting from the 2027-28 fiscal year. The fuel surcharge formula is being revamped to include all energy purchases, not just long-term agreements, potentially increasing recovery amounts. Additionally, a new regulatory asset surcharge will be levied over four years to liquidate the Kerala State Electricity Board's regulatory assets, estimated at around ₹5,000 crore. These measures, part of the KSERC's multi-year tariff regulations, aim to ensure compliance with central government rules allowing automatic pass-through of power purchase cost variations.
