Indore Metro Faces ₹400 Crore Cost Hike To Save Parrot Habitats

The Indore High Court heard a petition to save old trees and parrot habitats in Rani Sarai for metro construction. The metro company stated that relocating the station could increase project costs by ₹400 crore and delay it by three to four years. Alternative sites like Regal Talkies and Gandhi Hall present significant challenges, including potential impact on historical buildings and properties. The petitioners argue that new trees lack the natural structure for birds to nest, unlike the 50-60 year old trees currently present.

इंदौर हाई कोर्ट में रानी सराय में पुराने पेड़ों और तोतों के आवास को मेट्रो निर्माण के लिए बचाने की याचिका पर सुनवाई हुई। मेट्रो कंपनी ने बताया कि स्टेशन को दूसरी जगह ले जाने से प्रोजेक्ट की लागत ₹400 करोड़ बढ़ सकती है और इसमें तीन से चार साल की देरी हो सकती है। रीगल टॉकीज और गांधी हॉल जैसे वैकल्पिक स्थानों पर भी बड़ी चुनौतियाँ हैं, जिनमें ऐतिहासिक इमारतों और संपत्तियों पर असर पड़ने की संभावना है। याचिकाकर्ताओं का कहना है कि नए पेड़ों में पक्षियों के घोंसले बनाने के लिए प्राकृतिक ढाँचा नहीं होता, जैसा कि वर्तमान में मौजूद 50-60 साल पुराने पेड़ों में है।
