British Indian Property Developer Loses OBE Over Rogue Landlord Allegations
Times of India · world
A wealthy British Indian property developer, Nirpal Singh Riat, has had his OBE revoked by King Charles for allegedly renting out illegally converted homes in appalling conditions. Riat received the honour in 2011 for services to charity and the Punjabi community. However, Hounslow Council in 2023 branded him a rogue landlord and fined him £300,000 for tenant exploitation. Riat disputes the allegations, calling them fabricated, and plans a judicial review of the decision, citing unfairness in the honours forfeiture system.
