Farmers in drought-affected regions of Karnataka are facing significant crop failures, impacting staple crops like ragi. Shiva Shekhar, a farmer from Mandya district, could not sow ragi this season due to the lack of rain and opted for more drought-tolerant cowpea instead. Karnataka is India's largest ragi producer, contributing approximately 73% of the national area under cultivation. The widespread drought conditions threaten agricultural output and the livelihoods of many farmers in the state.
