A former Western Australian coal mine, closed in 1997, has been transformed into Lake Kepwari, a 103-hectare recreational water body. The artificial lake, located near Collie, now holds approximately 30 billion litres of water and offers activities like swimming, boating, and camping. This transformation is part of efforts to diversify tourism and rehabilitate former mining areas in the Collie region. The development involved addressing challenges such as water acidity to ensure safe public use.
