CPI Opposes Renaming Dakshina Kannada District to Mangaluru

The Communist Party of India (CPI) Mangaluru taluk committee has urged the Karnataka government not to rename the Dakshina Kannada district. In a letter to Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, CPI district secretary B Shekhar stated that the demand for renaming primarily comes from Mangaluru city residents and is not supported by the majority across the district. He highlighted the historical significance of the Dakshina Kannada name, noting its inclusion of 'Kannada' and its association with literary Kannada, urging its preservation to maintain the region's distinct identity.

सीपीआई ने दक्षिण कन्नड़ जिले का नाम बदलकर मंगलुरु करने का विरोध किया

कम्युनिस्ट पार्टी ऑफ इंडिया (सीपीआई) मंगलुरु तालुका समिति ने कर्नाटक सरकार से दक्षिण कन्नड़ जिले का नाम न बदलने की अपील की है। मुख्यमंत्री डीके शिवकुमार को लिखे पत्र में सीपीआई जिला सचिव बी शेखर ने कहा कि नाम बदलने की मांग मुख्य रूप से मंगलुरु शहर के निवासियों से आ रही है और जिले के अधिकांश लोग इसका समर्थन नहीं करते हैं। उन्होंने दक्षिण कन्नड़ नाम के ऐतिहासिक महत्व पर प्रकाश डाला, जिसमें 'कन्नड़' का समावेश और साहित्यिक कन्नड़ से इसका जुड़ाव बताया, और क्षेत्र की विशिष्ट पहचान बनाए रखने के लिए इसे संरक्षित करने का आग्रह किया।
