Kerala Plans Vizhinjam Cruise Tourism Hub With New Terminal

The Kerala government intends to transform Vizhinjam into an international cruise tourism destination, with plans for a dedicated cruise terminal and passenger facilities. This initiative aims to attract foreign tourists and stimulate economic growth in southern Kerala. Proposed amenities include immigration, customs, and a tourist information centre, alongside day trips and heritage tours to nearby attractions like Kovalam and the Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple. Leveraging its strategic location near a major shipping route and deep-water capabilities, Vizhinjam has previously hosted over 20 foreign cruise vessels since 2009.
