Nepal Issues Letters of Intent for Private Cross-Border Power Trade

India Today · business

Nepal's Ministry of Energy has decided to issue letters of intent to twelve private companies seeking to engage in cross-border electricity trading. These letters will allow companies to explore markets and identify partners, but actual trading requires amendments to the Electricity Act and obtaining licenses. The Nepal Electricity Authority currently handles such trade, including exports to Bangladesh. Companies must also comply with India's cross-border trade guidelines for power exports. The process involves legal amendments and regulatory approvals before private firms can fully participate.
