India Bonds Extend Weekly Slide Amid RBI Hike, Hawkish Stance Shift, and Oil Price Concerns

Economic Times Markets · stocks

Indian government bonds have experienced an eighth consecutive week of decline, primarily driven by elevated oil prices and a hawkish policy shift from the Reserve Bank of India. The benchmark 10-year yield has risen, reflecting diminished investor appetite. The RBI increased its repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50% and adopted a 'calibrated tightening' stance, signalling potential future rate hikes. Economists anticipate the terminal repo rate could reach at least 6.00%, with some forecasting 6.25%.
