India Launches Project To Save Elusive Caracal

An 18-month project has been launched to study and conserve India's caracal population, estimated at fewer than 100 individuals. The initiative, involving multiple wildlife institutions and an NGO, aims to understand the caracal's ecology, habitat, and threats. Researchers will use camera traps and analyze habitat changes and competition with other predators. Findings will inform a conservation strategy for the nocturnal wild cat, largely confined to Rajasthan and Gujarat.
