The opposition alleged that the government has made concessions to Beijing and failed to address border security concerns adequately. Congress criticised the PM for joking with Chinese President Xi Jinping at the BRICS summit, stating that reports of clashes had been suppressed since July. The party also raised concerns over China renaming places and building dams, citing risks to India's ecological and water security.
