Supreme Court Seeks Details on Library Relocation Under Central Vista Project

The Supreme Court has asked the Union government to provide a detailed affidavit regarding the relocation of the 135-year-old Central Secretariat Library. The library, currently in Shastri Bhawan, houses over 8.5 lakh books and is being moved as part of the Central Vista redevelopment. The court stressed the need to preserve its valuable collection and questioned the adequacy of the proposed space in Kartavya Bhavan. It also highlighted the issue of two lakh regional language books remaining packed for 15 years.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने केंद्र सरकार से 135 साल पुरानी सेंट्रल सेक्रेटेरिएट लाइब्रेरी के स्थानांतरण के संबंध में विस्तृत हलफनामा देने को कहा है। शास्त्री भवन में स्थित इस लाइब्रेरी में 8.5 लाख से अधिक किताबें हैं और इसे सेंट्रल विस्टा के पुनर्विकास के हिस्से के रूप में स्थानांतरित किया जा रहा है। अदालत ने इसके मूल्यवान संग्रह को संरक्षित करने की आवश्यकता पर जोर दिया और कर्त्तव्य भवन में प्रस्तावित स्थान की पर्याप्तता पर सवाल उठाया। इसने दो लाख क्षेत्रीय भाषा की किताबों के 15 साल से पैक रहने के मुद्दे को भी उजागर किया।
