Supreme Court Upholds Prosecution of M. Karunanidhi in Corruption Case

The Supreme Court has affirmed the prosecution of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi in a corruption case initiated in 1976. Investigations by the CBI alleged Karunanidhi and others abused their official positions, causing pecuniary advantage of ₹4 to ₹5 lakh in wheat procurement. A charge sheet was filed under the IPC and Prevention of Corruption Act after the Governor's sanction. Karunanidhi's plea to be discharged from the case was dismissed by the Special Court and upheld by the Madras High Court.

सुप्रीम कोर्ट ने पूर्व तमिलनाडु मुख्यमंत्री एम. करुणानिधि पर 1976 में शुरू हुए भ्रष्टाचार मामले में मुकदमा चलाने की पुष्टि की है। सीबीआई की जांच में आरोप लगाया गया था कि करुणानिधि और अन्य ने अपने आधिकारिक पदों का दुरुपयोग किया, जिससे गेहूं की खरीद में ₹4 से ₹5 लाख का अनुचित लाभ हुआ। राज्यपाल की मंजूरी के बाद आईपीसी और भ्रष्टाचार निवारण अधिनियम के तहत आरोप पत्र दायर किया गया था। विशेष अदालत ने करुणानिधि की मामले से बरी होने की याचिका खारिज कर दी थी, जिसे मद्रास हाई कोर्ट ने भी बरकरार रखा था।
