This demographic makes them a crucial 'vote bank' and 'kingmaker', particularly in regions like Etawah, Mainpuri, Badaun, and Azamgarh. Their consolidation after the Mandal Commission has historically aligned them with the Samajwadi Party, enabling leaders like Mulayam Singh Yadav and Akhilesh Yadav to become Chief Ministers.
