In 1988, Ohio attorney Neil McKown purchased 155 neglected acres, beginning a 38-year journey to revitalize the land. Today, the McKown family manages nearly 500 acres in Richland County, cultivating crops, hay, and raising cattle. Their dedication to improving soil health, water management, and woodland conservation has earned them the Ohio Conservation Farm Family Award. McKown declined a significant timber cut to preserve the woods, prioritizing long-term stewardship over immediate profit.
