AI Medical Diagnosis Tools Need Doctor Oversight, IIIT-H Study Warns
The Hindu · india
A study by the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (IIIT-H) has cautioned doctors against solely relying on AI for medical image diagnosis. Researchers evaluated four AI models analyzing chest X-rays and found discrepancies between AI-highlighted areas and those identified by radiologists. The findings suggest AI models might highlight regions based on pre-existing diagnostic assumptions rather than direct image analysis. Doctors must independently verify AI outputs to ensure accurate disease localization and diagnosis, as AI performance declined when diagnostic information was removed.
