India May Get Multiple TV Ratings Agencies, Raising Questions Over Which TRP Will Count

Business Standard · business

India is set to implement a new policy allowing multiple television audience measurement agencies to operate, potentially ending the current ratings blackout. The Television Rating Policy, 2026, removes restrictions on the number of registered agencies, opening the door for Broadcast Audience Research Council (Barc) India to coexist with new providers like TAM India and Chrome DM. This development raises significant questions for broadcasters and advertisers regarding which ratings will be considered valid for commercial transactions if different agencies report varying audience numbers.
