Supreme Court Warns Authorities on Firecracker Orders Enforcement

Times of India · environment

The Supreme Court has stated it is not inclined to impose a complete ban on firecrackers in Delhi-NCR. However, it warned authorities against failing to enforce existing orders, cautioning that such inaction could lead to a "very harsh stand." Justices MM Sundresh and Prasanna B Varale emphasized that judicial directions are meaningless without ground-level compliance, as air pollution affects everyone. The court stressed the need for serious action and cooperation from all stakeholders to regulate firecracker use effectively. Authorities were also advised to involve prominent personalities in public awareness campaigns.
