Kolkata Flyover Paint Raises Road Safety Concerns For Two-Wheelers

An IIT-Kharagpur expert has identified potential road-safety risks on Kolkata's Chingrighata flyover due to its rainbow paint. Professor Bhargab Maitra noted that multiple paint layers on an old mastic asphalt surface could reduce friction, posing a hazard, especially for motorcycles with their lower stability and smaller tyre contact area. While authorities have installed road studs and plan to restrict two-wheeler movement during rain, the police commissioner stated there's insufficient evidence to link the paint directly to reported skidding incidents.

IIT-Kharagpur के एक विशेषज्ञ ने कोलकाता के चिंगरीघाटा फ्लाईओवर पर इंद्रधनुषी पेंट के कारण संभावित सड़क-सुरक्षा जोखिमों की पहचान की है। प्रोफेसर भार्गव मैत्रा ने बताया कि पुराने मैस्टिक डामर की सतह पर पेंट की कई परतें घर्षण को कम कर सकती हैं, जिससे खासकर मोटरसाइकिल जैसे कम स्थिरता और छोटे टायर संपर्क क्षेत्र वाले वाहनों के लिए खतरा पैदा हो सकता है। हालांकि अधिकारियों ने रोड स्टड लगाए हैं और बारिश के दौरान दोपहिया वाहनों की आवाजाही को प्रतिबंधित करने की योजना बनाई है, पुलिस आयुक्त ने कहा कि रिपोर्ट की गई स्किडिंग की घटनाओं को सीधे पेंट से जोड़ने के लिए पर्याप्त सबूत नहीं हैं।
