Ellen DeGeneres' Rwanda Gorilla Project Becomes Research & Education Hub

In 2018, Portia de Rossi gifted Ellen DeGeneres a gorilla conservation project in Rwanda, which evolved into the Ellen DeGeneres Campus of the Dian Fossey Gorilla Fund. This permanent research and education centre near Volcanoes National Park officially opened in February 2022. By September 2023, the campus had welcomed over 40,000 visitors, including more than 7,500 local schoolchildren. The sustainable facility focuses on science, learning, and protecting endangered mountain gorillas, offering internships and workshops.
