Gut Bacteria Imbalance Triples Diabetes Risk in Children

Aaj Tak · health

A new medical research reveals that an imbalance in gut bacteria significantly increases the risk of type-1 diabetes in children by up to three times. Previously, genetic factors were considered the primary cause. This imbalance, known as 'leaky gut,' can confuse the immune system, leading it to attack the pancreas's insulin-producing beta cells. This condition affects approximately 95,600 to 1 lakh children under 14 in India.
