Filmmaker Subhash Ghai Says Today's Actors Prioritize Money Over Art

Filmmaker Subhash Ghai, known for 80s and 90s hits like Khalnayak and Taal, believes contemporary actors prioritize earning more money over artistic craft. He recalled that in his era, actors were more interested in the story, director, and character, often accepting only 40% of their usual fees. Ghai noted that today, multiple managers and PR professionals would intervene if actors were asked to take a similar pay cut. He also mentioned that actors have numerous other earning avenues beyond films, but these are often seasonal.

80 और 90 के दशक की हिट फिल्मों 'खलनायक' और 'ताल' के लिए जाने जाने वाले फिल्म निर्माता सुभाष घई का मानना है कि आज के एक्टर कला से ज़्यादा पैसा कमाने को अहमियत देते हैं। उन्होंने याद किया कि उनके ज़माने में एक्टर कहानी, डायरेक्टर और किरदार में ज़्यादा दिलचस्पी रखते थे, और अक्सर अपनी सामान्य फीस का सिर्फ़ 40% ही लेते थे। घई ने बताया कि आज अगर एक्टर्स से ऐसी ही फीस कटौती करने को कहा जाए तो कई मैनेजर और पीआर प्रोफेशनल बीच में आ जाएंगे। उन्होंने यह भी ज़िक्र किया कि फिल्मों के अलावा एक्टर्स के पास कमाई के कई और रास्ते हैं, लेकिन ये अक्सर मौसमी होते हैं।
