Economic Times Markets · stocks

Godfrey Phillips India reported a 37.73 per cent decline in consolidated net profit to Rs 189.90 crore for the September quarter, primarily due to an increase in taxes. Revenue from operations, however, doubled to Rs 4,198.17 crore during the same period. The company's CEO cited a steep tax increase implemented in Q4 of FY26 as the reason for the profitability decline. This higher tax burden has also contributed to the growth of illicit trade, posing a significant concern for the legal cigarette industry.
