Scientists Create Sponge To Pull Water From Air

Researchers have developed a novel wood-based sponge capable of efficiently capturing water vapour from dry air, even at 15% humidity. This innovative material, created by chemically modifying balsa wood and incorporating lithium chloride, can absorb significant amounts of moisture. A larger system built from this sponge yielded 1.72 litres of freshwater per kilogram per day during outdoor tests, offering a promising solution for atmospheric water harvesting.
