Russia's Weightlifters Under Scrutiny For Lack Of Drug Testing
DW World · world
Concerns are rising over Russia's return to international sports, particularly in weightlifting. Ahead of the World Championships in Ningbo, China, only four out of 16 Russian weightlifters were tested by the International Testing Agency (ITA) in the nine months prior. This lack of out-of-competition testing is significant because performance-enhancing drugs are most effective during training. Global Athlete head Rob Koehler called the situation "absurd," emphasizing that out-of-competition testing is crucial for anti-doping efforts. The ITA stated they tested all Russian athletes before the event.
