India's Steel Demand Defies Global Weakness Amidst Strong Domestic Growth
Economic Times · business
India's steel market is showing remarkable strength, bucking a global trend of subdued demand and falling prices. This divergence is driven by robust domestic factors, including significant infrastructure spending on highways, railways, and airports, alongside manufacturing expansion under initiatives like Make in India. Higher production costs for raw materials and energy have also supported domestic prices. Unlike previous rallies, the current uptrend is demand-led, fueled by urbanization and industrialization. Meanwhile, global markets struggle with oversupply, particularly from China, whose property sector slowdown has not curbed its steel output.
