Karnataka HC: No Coercive Action Against Multiplexes Over 2% Cinema Ticket Cess

The Karnataka High Court has recorded the State government's assurance that no coercive action will be taken against cinema theatre and multiplex operators challenging the new 2% cess on movie tickets. The petitions were filed by the Multiplex Association of India, PVR INOX, and Vinayaka Chitramandira Theatre. The court noted the government advocate's submission that no coercive steps would be initiated until the next hearing. The Act, which came into force on September 30, mandates a 2% cess on cinema ticket prices for the welfare of cine and cultural activists.
