Europe and Vietnam are strengthening economic and diplomatic ties, with trade in goods reaching €76 billion in 2025. Vietnam's Communist Party chief recently visited Brussels, highlighting growing cooperation. The EU-Vietnam Free Trade Agreement, effective since August 2020, has significantly boosted commercial links. Vietnam is now the EU's largest trading partner in Southeast Asia and a key strategic partner for diversifying supply chains away from China. However, this deepening relationship raises concerns about whether Europe is adequately addressing Vietnam's human rights record and labor standards.
