India Mandates Advanced Car Safety Features Including Auto-Braking and Driver Alert Systems

The Indian government is preparing to mandate advanced safety features in cars and light commercial vehicles to reduce road accidents. Proposed amendments to motor vehicle rules include systems for automatic emergency braking upon detecting collision risks, driver drowsiness warnings, and lane-keeping assistance. These features will be phased in, with new models requiring them by October 2029 and October 2030, and all models by October 2032. Stricter standards for steering systems and ISOFIX child seat systems are also planned.

सड़क दुर्घटनाओं को कम करने के लिए भारतीय सरकार कारों और हल्के वाणिज्यिक वाहनों में उन्नत सुरक्षा सुविधाओं को अनिवार्य बनाने की तैयारी कर रही है। मोटर वाहन नियमों में प्रस्तावित संशोधनों में टक्कर के जोखिम का पता चलने पर स्वचालित आपातकालीन ब्रेकिंग, ड्राइवर की नींद की चेतावनी और लेन-कीपिंग सहायता जैसी प्रणालियाँ शामिल हैं। इन सुविधाओं को चरणबद्ध तरीके से लागू किया जाएगा, जिसमें नए मॉडलों को अक्टूबर 2029 और अक्टूबर 2030 तक इनकी आवश्यकता होगी, और सभी मॉडलों को अक्टूबर 2032 तक। स्टीयरिंग सिस्टम और ISOFIX चाइल्ड सीट सिस्टम के लिए सख्त मानकों की भी योजना है।
