Cabinet Approves Hike in Rabi MSP for 2027-28 Season, Safflower Sees Biggest Jump

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs has approved increased Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for all Rabi crops for the 2027-28 marketing season. Safflower will see the largest increase, rising by ₹675 per quintal to ₹7,215, a 10.3% hike. Rapeseed and mustard MSP will increase by 6.7% to ₹6,613 per quintal. These increases align with the Union Budget 2018-19's goal of setting MSP at least 1.5 times the production cost. The government stated this aims to provide remunerative prices and encourage crop diversification among farmers.
