Rights groups and the Opposition in Odisha have strongly condemned the arrest of doctor Randall Sequeira and Dalit activist Laxman Naik. The activists were apprehended on October 16 in Bhawanipatna town, Kalahandi district. Their arrests are linked to a case stemming from an April clash during protests against a road project connected to Vedanta Limited's proposed Sijimali bauxite mine. Critics allege these actions are part of a broader crackdown on Adivasi and Dalit communities opposing mining projects in the region.
