US President Donald Trump announced a $15 billion steel mill project in Iowa, to be built by Mesabi Metallics, an Indian firm. Mesabi Metallics is owned by the Essar Group, which previously sold its oil refinery to a Russian-led consortium for nearly $13 billion in 2016. The refinery, now Nayara Energy, is half-owned by Russian gas major Rosneft, which faces sanctions. This project highlights US struggles to isolate Russia economically despite sanctions. The announcement comes as India remains a major buyer of Russian oil.
