Tamil Nadu's rural and urban local body elections will now be held after March 2027, according to government sources. The delay is attributed to ongoing reorganisation of administrative units, delimitation of wards, and reservation of seats. Special officers have been appointed to administer rural local bodies in nine districts where elected representatives' terms ended. The government has also assured the court that elections will only occur after these reorganisation processes are completed, with special officers continuing to manage village administrations.

सरकारी सूत्रों के अनुसार, तमिलनाडु में ग्रामीण और शहरी स्थानीय निकाय चुनाव अब मार्च 2027 के बाद होंगे। यह देरी प्रशासनिक इकाइयों के चल रहे पुनर्गठन, वार्डों के परिसीमन और सीटों के आरक्षण के कारण बताई जा रही है। नौ जिलों में ग्रामीण स्थानीय निकायों के निर्वाचित प्रतिनिधियों का कार्यकाल समाप्त होने के बाद विशेष अधिकारियों की नियुक्ति की गई है। सरकार ने अदालत को यह भी आश्वासन दिया है कि इन पुनर्गठन प्रक्रियाओं के पूरा होने के बाद ही चुनाव होंगे, और विशेष अधिकारी ग्राम प्रशासनों का प्रबंधन जारी रखेंगे।
