Eurasian Eagle-Owl Photographed For First Time In Eastern Himalayas

Times of India · environment

One of the world's largest owl species, the Eurasian eagle-owl, has been photographed for the first time in the Eastern Himalayan foothills near Buxa Tiger Reserve in West Bengal. This marks a significant photographic record for eastern India, as the species is primarily associated with the Western Himalayas. Birdwatchers Biswapriya Rahut and Samudra Sengupta captured the images during an ongoing owl survey. Scientists suggest recent weather disturbances in Bhutan, including a glacial lake outburst flood, may have influenced its unusual appearance in the region.
