HPCL Reports 9% Profit Fall in Q2 Amidst Rising Costs and Taxes

Business Standard · stocks

Hindustan Petroleum Corp (HPCL) announced a 9% decline in its second-quarter net profit, which fell to ₹3,483 crore from ₹3,830 crore in the previous year. This downturn was primarily driven by increased tax expenses and a significant surge in crude oil prices, which squeezed the company's fuel retail margins. Overall expenses for HPCL rose by 25.9%, with raw material costs climbing 24.3%. Despite these challenges, the company received compensation from the Indian government for domestic LPG under-recoveries, contributing to a rise in sales revenue.
