China Becomes Rwanda's Top Export Market

In the first quarter of 2026, China emerged as Rwanda's largest export market, absorbing 26% of its total exports. This significant increase, up from less than 5% a year prior, is largely attributed to China's removal of tariffs on nearly all Rwandan products. However, Rwandan businesses now face the challenge of meeting stringent sanitary standards to effectively access China's vast market of 1.4 billion consumers.
