Mysuru has prohibited the use of trees for festive light decorations, including during the upcoming Dasara celebrations. The Forest Department issued an order directing the Mysuru City Corporation and the electricity supply company not to attach lights to trees. This decision follows complaints from environmentalists and residents concerned about damage to urban trees. The move aims to protect trees from physical harm caused by wires and fasteners, and potential disruption of their biological processes by artificial light. Similar concerns have been raised in other Indian cities like Pune and Bengaluru.
