Seattle shipbuilder Robert Moran sold his company for $3.5 million in 1906 after doctors gave him six months to live. He moved to Orcas Island and lived for another 37 years, building a 54-room mansion called Rosario. Moran later gifted over 2,700 acres of his estate to the state, which became Moran State Park. His work in shipbuilding and rebuilding Seattle after a fire significantly impacted the region.
