Hindu rites alone don't prove conversion for marriage registration: Delhi HC
Hindustan Times · india
The Delhi High Court has ruled that solemnising a marriage according to Hindu rites is not sufficient proof of conversion to Hinduism for registration under the Hindu Marriage Act. A marriage under the Act is valid only if solemnised between two Hindus. The court addressed a Swedish woman's petition challenging guidelines requiring at least one spouse to be an Indian citizen for registration. It directed the Delhi government to modify its online portal to allow foreign nationals and OCI card holders to register marriages using alternative identity documents.
