AI Homework Helper Hurts Student Exam Scores, Study Finds

A recent World Bank study published in the 'World Development Report 2026' reveals that while AI tools are assisting students with homework, this reliance is negatively impacting their academic performance. The study, conducted among Chinese students from 7th to 12th grade, found that AI usage increased from zero to 80% between 2022 and 2025. While homework scores rose by 18%, monthly exam scores dropped by 20%, and college entrance exam scores fell by 5-7% for AI users. This suggests students may not be developing essential knowledge and skills.

वर्ल्ड बैंक की 'वर्ल्ड डेवलपमेंट रिपोर्ट 2026' में छपी एक नई स्टडी बताती है कि AI टूल्स होमवर्क में छात्रों की मदद तो कर रहे हैं, लेकिन इस भरोसे का असर उनके पढ़ाई के नतीजों पर बुरा पड़ रहा है। 7वीं से 12वीं क्लास के चीनी छात्रों पर हुई इस स्टडी में पता चला कि 2022 से 2025 के बीच AI का इस्तेमाल 0% से बढ़कर 80% हो गया। जहाँ होमवर्क के स्कोर 18% बढ़े, वहीं AI इस्तेमाल करने वाले छात्रों के मासिक परीक्षा के स्कोर 20% और कॉलेज एंट्रेंस एग्जाम के स्कोर 5-7% गिर गए। इससे लगता है कि छात्र ज़रूरी ज्ञान और हुनर नहीं सीख पा रहे हैं।
