Times of India · environment
Prolonged wildfires in Indonesia, particularly in Borneo and Sumatra, are causing a severe haze across Southeast Asia, significantly impacting Singapore and Malaysia. These fires, exacerbated by "super El Niño" conditions, have led to a sharp rise in respiratory illnesses, with over 283,000 cases reported in Indonesia. The pollution has also disrupted daily life, forcing school closures and affecting nearly 2,000 flights. Regional tensions are rising as neighbours question Jakarta's response and its reluctance to accept aid.
