Bengal CEO Calls All-Party Meet To Discuss Electoral Roll Revision

West Bengal's Chief Electoral Officer has convened an all-party meeting to discuss the special summary revision of electoral rolls, which is set to begin this month. Opposition parties have requested that civic polls be postponed until January 16, the date for the final roll publication. They argue that newly enrolled voters should not be denied their voting rights. The revision aims to include eligible voters as of October 1, 2026, and those turning 18 next year. Polling stations will be rationalised by November 13.

पश्चिम बंगाल के मुख्य निर्वाचन अधिकारी ने मतदाता सूची के विशेष संक्षिप्त संशोधन पर चर्चा के लिए एक सर्वदलीय बैठक बुलाई है, जो इसी महीने शुरू होने वाली है। विपक्षी दलों ने नागरिक चुनावों को 16 जनवरी तक स्थगित करने का अनुरोध किया है, जो अंतिम सूची प्रकाशन की तारीख है। उनका तर्क है कि नए नामांकित मतदाताओं को उनके मतदान के अधिकार से वंचित नहीं किया जाना चाहिए। संशोधन का उद्देश्य 1 अक्टूबर, 2026 तक पात्र मतदाताओं और अगले साल 18 साल के होने वालों को शामिल करना है। मतदान केंद्रों का युक्तिकरण 13 नवंबर तक किया जाएगा।
