Assam Cabinet Makes Muslim Marriage Registration Mandatory

The Assam Cabinet has decided to make the registration of Muslim marriages mandatory in the state. A proposal for Muslim Marriage Registration Rules, 2026, was approved during a cabinet meeting. Under the new regulations, Muslim marriages will be registered through an authorized registrar. This decision also marks the end of the existing system where marriages were registered through Qazis. The move aims to streamline and formalize marriage records within the Muslim community in Assam.

असम कैबिनेट ने राज्य में मुस्लिम शादियों का रजिस्ट्रेशन अनिवार्य करने का फैसला किया है। कैबिनेट मीटिंग में 'मुस्लिम मैरिज रजिस्ट्रेशन रूल्स, 2026' का प्रस्ताव पास हुआ। अब शादियों का रजिस्ट्रेशन एक अधिकृत रजिस्ट्रार के ज़रिए होगा। इससे काज़ियों द्वारा रजिस्ट्रेशन का पुराना तरीका खत्म हो जाएगा। इस कदम से असम में मुस्लिम समुदाय के विवाह रिकॉर्ड को व्यवस्थित और औपचारिक बनाने में मदद मिलेगी।
