In 1973, the iconic Bollywood film Zanjeer, which launched Amitabh Bachchan's career, was initially rejected by several established actors. Dharmendra, Dilip Kumar, and Rajesh Khanna were all reportedly considered for the lead role of Inspector Vijay Khanna. Dharmendra had even initially acquired the story rights. However, due to various reasons, including creative differences and scheduling conflicts, they all passed on the project. Amitabh Bachchan, who was struggling for a hit, was eventually cast and delivered a performance that redefined the action hero archetype in Indian cinema.
