Delhi Forest Department Advises Robotic Elephants Over Live Captive Elephants at Events

The Delhi Forest and Wildlife Department has advised religious institutions and event organisers to use mechanised or robotic elephants instead of live captive ones. This advisory, issued, addresses concerns regarding public safety, animal welfare, and logistical challenges associated with using live elephants in crowded urban settings like Delhi. The department noted that live elephants are sometimes brought from different regions for events under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. The move aims to mitigate risks and improve the management of such ceremonies.

दिल्ली वन और वन्यजीव विभाग ने धार्मिक संस्थानों और कार्यक्रम आयोजकों को सलाह दी है कि वे असली बंधुआ हाथियों की जगह मशीनी या रोबोटिक हाथियों का इस्तेमाल करें। यह सलाह, जो जारी की गई है, दिल्ली जैसे भीड़भाड़ वाले शहरी इलाकों में असली हाथियों के इस्तेमाल से जुड़ी सार्वजनिक सुरक्षा, पशु कल्याण और लॉजिस्टिक चुनौतियों को संबोधित करती है। विभाग ने कहा कि असली हाथियों को वन्यजीव (संरक्षण) अधिनियम, 1972 के तहत कार्यक्रमों के लिए कभी-कभी विभिन्न क्षेत्रों से लाया जाता है। इस कदम का उद्देश्य जोखिमों को कम करना और ऐसे समारोहों के प्रबंधन में सुधार करना है।
