Kerala Forest Dept to Report on Reinstalled Elephant Fences in Idukki

The Hindu · india

The Forest Department in Kerala's Idukki district will submit a report to the Subcollector regarding the reinstallation of fences on farmlands. Forest officers had previously removed wire ropes and solar electric fencing from cardamom plantations in Panthadikkalam and Choondal areas to allow wild elephants free movement. However, landowners re-erected these barriers within days, once again obstructing elephant paths. This action follows a directive from the District Collector after a tribal man was killed in a wild elephant attack, escalating human-wildlife conflict.
